Jazz art titled: TIMELESS JAZZ original oil painting
Debra - I am very impressed with your art, especially the colorful Timeless Jazz painting! My name is Sheila Macho, and I am the Cover Editor of a nonprofit pharmaceutical magazine titled JMCP (Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy), whose parent organization is AMCP (Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy) of Alexandria, Virginia. The magazine is published nine times per year, and we feature a different work of art on every cover (similar to what JAMA [Journal of the American Medical Association] does). Our audience is mainly pharmacists and physicians. We are interested in using Timeless Jazz for our October 2010 magazine cover image.
I have submitted the image of Timeless Jazz to our editor-in-chief and he has enthusiastically approved the selection for the October 2010 JMCP cover. The next step is to ask you for your permission to let us use the image of this painting. It would appear on the cover as well as a thumbnail-sized image on the inside to accompany the full-page article that I write about the cover artist in each issue in a section titled "Cover Impressions - About Our Cover Artist." We have a standard agreement document drawn up for each issue that you would sign and I also sign it, guaranteeing that we will only use the image for the intended purpose.
While there is no monetary compensation for the cover art, it's a wonderful way to get more exposure for your art and your website, as our circulation is close to 20,000 (it's like free advertising!). Any books/magazines, etc. that your art has appeared in would also be mentioned in the article. In addition, I include the artist's gallery information if applicable, and of course I would write about your website.
I usually exchange e-mails with the artist and/or interview them over the phone to gain additional insights into their background, and they often send me biographical information, either by e-mail or regular mail. The cover artist has approval of the first draft of the article. After the magazine is published, the artist receives 12 copies, and they are free to post the JMCP Cover Impressions article and/or cover on their website as long as they cite the reference.
Here is the link for the current issue (the Cover Impressions article is on page 379 [the fifth page] of the pdf file). Click on the JMCP July/August link found on this page, which is right below Volume 16 Issue 6:

Actually, that particular issue focused more on the art than the artist, but if you click on any of the other links for the 2010 issues, you can get a feel for the typical article content.
If you would like to see some past issues, this link will take you directly to the page containing the links for the 1995 - 2009 issues.
